If you have a sprinkler system or hot water heating system in your house, the code requires that you have a backflow device to protect the water system from cross connecting or backflow. Water from your yard or boiler can flow back into the potable water system. It is necessary to have every backflow device tested every year by a licensed backflow tester, as per state law.
